Cara Castronuova
A Golden Gloves Champion, boxer Castronuova is disciplined like her dad, a U.S. Marine, and draws strength from her mother’s recent, unexpected death. “She was my biggest supporter,” says Castronuova, 25. “Her passing taught me that life is too short to hold on to the fear of losing.” Castronuova, of Chinese and Italian heritage, studied broadcasting at Hofstra. Her interviews with other boxers are vids on her MySpace page. She also dabbles in independent film acting and screenwriting, and is featured in a new comic and in Paper magazine. With support from her partner of two years, God-des (of hip-hop duo God-des & She), Castronuova keeps a strict training regimen to prepare for her debut on the professional boxing circuit later this year. “Training is an every day part of life.” –S Sterling
