Beth Bye
Connecticut State Representative Bye lives life openly, so when she decided to officially come out during her marriage equality speech on April 12, she was surprised at how emotional the experience was. "I had never said anything about being gay out loud in a public setting. I realized it's hard to–there's still some level of discrimination that makes you uncomfortable. There’s still the assumption of heterosexuality." In 2001, Bye was one of Connecticut Magazine's “30 Young People of Influence,” and in 2002 she won The National Council of Jewish Women’s Women Who Dare Award. Bye, a 10-year, West Hartford resident lives with her partner, Tracey, and two daughters, Brittany (14) and Caroline (12). –DP
