Yvette Cid
Native Jersey City resident Cid has long been an industrious entrepreneur, but only lately discovered she was an "accidental activist" in the LGBT community. She began by rescuing a friend, an elderly gay man whose partner had died without a will, leaving him destitute. After hearing of too many with nowhere to go, and suffering through hard times herself, Cid decided to organize the new Chilltown Pride Center, a welcoming environment for the LGBTI community in Hudson County, New Jersey. As co-chair of the Center, she’s focusing on providing a safe place for youth and seniors and the trans community. In addition to opening Chilltown Pride Center, Cid is the head of security for the JCLGO (Jersey City Lesbian Gay Outreach) and Jersey Pride, and is also on the Garden State Equality Board, and manages Missing Peace. –DP
