Evelyn C. White
Veteran journalist White spent ten years researching and writing her latest novel, Alice Walker: A Life, chronicling Walker’s journey from the daughter of sharecroppers to revolutionary activist and first black woman awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. “I have always admired Alice’s refusal to ‘conform’ to outside pressure,” White says.?“She is fiercely independent and answers only to her conscience and infinite respect for her ancestors”. A former editor of The San Francisco Chronicle, White has published various essays, articles and reviews in publications such as The Washington Post, Essence and The Wall Street Journal. The 53 year-old native of Gary, Indiana lives on Salt Spring Island, B.C. with her partner Joanne Bealy, where she writes book reviews for the Vancouver Sun and other literary works for various publications. –RT
