Erica Beckman
Erica Beckman captivates our attention as the founder and photographer of I Heart Brooklyn Girls, the shiny pin-up calendar featuring the borough’s most bodacious femmes. The calendar is a collective effort of Brooklyn stylists, make-up artists and designers. A portion of the proceeds supports a different charitable organization every year; this year’s recipient is the not-for-profit Coney Island USA, which was founded to keep historic Coney Island alive. Beckman’s personal aesthetic requires a little fantasy, a lot of flash and a preference for stark lighting. “I take environmental shots,” she says. “I like coming up on a location…[and knowing] that’s what I need to do.” By day, Beckman acts as photo editor for Fortune Small Business Magazine. In her off hours, you can catch her lighting up some back alley for a fashion shoot. –JB
