Vanessa Brito

Political activist and marketing guru Vanessa Brito is director of MYami Marketing, a firm that donates resources toward mitigating the challenges faced by the LGBT community. Brito’s goal is to foster community development through resource management on local, state and national levels—she’s managed projects such as the Broward County Exit Poll on Hispanic Voter Accessibility and the Education Compact for the City of Miami Gardens and the Miami-Dade County School Board. She also founded Miami Voice, a nonpartisan Political Action Committee empowering residents and holding elected officials accountable, which spearheaded the historic recall of an 18-year veteran county commissioner in Miami-Dade. “We often talk about how discouraged voters are with the political system,” says Brito, a board member of several Miami-Dade County civic organizations, “but our work has really pushed people to trust there are a few good people out there representing and standing up for them.” When she isn’t keeping elected officials to their promises, Brito writes for Miami.com en Español and Ambiente Magazine. –DP
