100 Women We Love 2006

Meet the class of 2006

Catherine Marino-Thomas

As co-executive director of Marriage Equality New York, Marino-Thomas fights for our right to be legally wed, and admits, “My biggest accomplishment is two-fold: being able to reach out to the community and educate them…and being able to create this network.” Her early work with ACT UP primed her for her current work building bridges between her group and others like Lambda Legal and Freedom to Marry, “supporting each other’s demos, rallies, court cases and working more as a unified front.” Marino-Thomas and her partner of 13 years wed in Massachusetts three years ago and have a six-year-old daughter. “If a couple came to me today and said they want to get married in Canada or Massachusetts, I have the resources to get that done,” said Marino-Thomas.
