100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Wanda Sykes

Comedian, actress and Emmy-Award winning writer, Wanda Sykes is known for her stinging, honest social criticism. After California’s Proposition 8 passed last fall, Sykes officially came out at the LGBT Center in Las Vegas, in front of 1,000 people
rallying in support of same-sex marriage. She and her partner had legally married in California less than two weeks before.
“I am very proud, I’m proud to be a woman, I’m proud to be a black woman, I’m proud to be gay. And I love you all, now let’s go get our damn equal rights!” Sykes said at the rally. The
couple became parents when her partner gave birth to twins in April. She currently co-stars in the television series The New Adventures of Old Christine on CBS and will be hosting
a Saturday late-night show on FOX beginning this fall. -CM

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
