Lisa Cannistraci
Lisa Cannistraci opened the legendary West Village lesbian bar Henrietta Hudson eighteen years ago, after having worked for seven years at the original Cubby Hole, which was housed in the same space. Her 25 year residency at this address is not the only thing that makes Cannistraci a prevalent
figure in the community. Her longtime activism includes involvement with Manhattan’s Community Board 2 and
serving on their social services committee, working with youth, seniors and on homeless and education issues. She also works on the Board’s Parks Committee, where she helps steer renovation changes for New York City parks. Cannistraci, a native New Yorker, is confident her city and state will embrace marriage equality soon. She says, “This is our time to stand up and speak out for what is inherently ours. Inclusiveness, equality, acceptance and respect for this world belongs to all of us, not some of us.” –CB
Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
