100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Liz Liguori

Kitchen Impossible? “No way!” says Liz Liguori. A photographer, lighting and visual artist, Liguori most recently added “reality television personality” to her resume with her carpentry and interior design skills on DIY Network’s Kitchen Impossible. Superstar DJs and recording artists as varied as LCD Soundsystem, MIA, Q-Tip and Frankie Knuckles have asked Liz to light up their shows, and her impromptu laser light shows at Love nightclub have earned her the moniker “light girl.” Her photographic archive features a “Who’s Who” of New York’s queer culture makers. Liguori’s first public photography show, Up Close: Downtown will be
presented at the new Dixon Place in conjunction with the 18th Annual HOT! Festival. She says, “I’m inspired by my surroundings; the light, color, texture, people, and the art of spontaneity. The challenge to harmonize the various elements that create a good image is very stimulating for me.” -KW

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
