100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Josie Smith-Malave

Chef Josie Smith-Malave is making the move from the New York Sharks, the women’s professional football team, to the New York Yankees. The former linebacker and one of the stars of Bravo’s Top Chef Season Two is now the Executive Sous Chef at the Yankee Stadium steakhouse, NYY Steak. Whether she’s taking hits on the football field or cooking up a storm on the baseball field, Smith-Malave is always on fire. She says of the Yankees, “It’s good to be associated with champions! And being a part of New York City history has been incredible…it makes waking up in the morning easy!” In her spare time, Smith-Malave is working on a condiment line, a social networking site and a
TV concept. But she never loses sight of the impact she’s had on the gay community: “I will continue to use my voice to change the world, one day at a time and also keep it real with each person I meet.” -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
