100 Women We Love: Kristin Hurd
We are thrilled to present the 2013 list of 100 Women We Love - Including...
In the 1950s, Kristin Hurd’s grandfather started the largest, most successful real estate firm in Ohio. Today, his protégé has made a name for herself in the same business in the ultimate market: the Big Apple. In her 10-plus years in the real estate world, Hurd has managed more than 200 brokers and over a billion dollars in transactions. She believes that understanding the market and pricing, and the fundamental belief that her job is to be of service to her clients, has been key to her success. And being gay hasn’t hurt. “In NYC, I’m truly spoiled with the freedom to be who I am,” she says. “People want to work with someone who is authentic. So, being out has meant I am authentic and I believe that has helped my business.” Last year, Hurd was named one of the New York Real Estate Journal’s Women in Real Estate 2012, and joined the renowned Manhattan firm of Brown Harris Stevens. Outside of the office, Hurd’s found even more ways to excel: she’s a federal club member of HRC, advisory board member of the Hudson Union Society, vice chair of Girl Be Heard (a women-focused theater company that creates pieces addressing human rights violations), and if that weren’t enough, she and her partner are new moms. Call it the Hurd mentality. –QW
