100 Women We Love: Page Hurwitz
We are thrilled to present the 2013 list of 100 Women We Love - Including...
People who complain that women don't help other women have never met television executive producer and show creator, Page Hurwitz. A former comic who worked her way up from TV writer to executive producer, Hurwitz embraces the notion that women deserve opportunities to succeed. It's that sensibility that ensured female comics were seen and heard when Hurwitz was Executive Producer on NBC's Last Comic Standing. Hurwitz also got her own spotlight on the show she created for OWN, My Life Is a Joke. Behind the camera, Hurwitz sees the women she hires and works with as an extended family that will pay it forward. "I love seeing them grow and become in-demand producers," she said. "My hope is that they continue the cycle and give the next wave of women opportunities to succeed." Hurwitz recently screened a shortened version of her feature length documentary, Out In the Desert, a moving, yet hilarious, exploration of The Dinah, the largest lesbian party in the world. In April, it was announced that Hurwitz and her producing partner, Wanda Sykes, had signed a "first look" deal with NBCUniversal. We can’t wait to see Hurwitz “stand up” for more great women-centric shows. -DN
