ERICA & ANNA
Brooklyn, NY
Erica, 37, photographer
Anna, 34, adjunct art history professor at CUNY Hunter College and PhD candidate

A few months after meeting at a mutual friend´s cabaret performance, Erica and Anna had their first date. They were so crazy about each other, one wedding wasn´t enough! “We had one in Brooklyn for our American friends and family, and one in London for our UK loved ones-it was really special to exchange vows in front of all our favorite people.” Unfortunately, they were still forced to grapple with discriminatory and suppressive immigration policies. “Anna is from Britain and for years we had issues with her visa, which was incredibly stressful at times. Even after we married she relied on her student visa to stay in the country. Thankfully, the Supreme Court ruling on DOMA this summer meant we were able to apply for a green card,” Erica says. “We went to the interview when Anna was seven months pregnant, armed with six years of photos-amazingly, we got the green card before our daughter was born.” They´re loving the new adventure of parenthood: “We´ve only been parents for a month, so we´re just figuring it out. So far, our favorite times are cuddling Ida and watching her change and develop,” Anna says. “We love her more every day!” Five years from now, we´ll probably find this adorable family living in London or upstate New York, “in a house with a garden and some siblings for Ida.”
