TERESA SCOTT
Founder and Personal Boxing Trainer, Women´s World of Boxing

Teresa Scott´s journey toward improving her health and life is an inspirational story we can all relate to. Ten years ago, Scott was overweight and seeking a way to shed the pounds. She fell in love with boxing and the workout she experienced in both mind and body, but the testosterone-fueled environment in the boxing gym left a lot to be desired. Through training, Scott lost 70 pounds, quit her secure job in the publishing industry, and founded Women´s World of Boxing-the first women-only boxing gym in New York City—in 2007. Since then, she has been building her boxing empire within an existing gym until she acquires the capital to open WWB independently. ″As intimidating and foreign as [founding the gym] was, I´ve always felt that it chose me, and I trusted it because it felt right,″ Scott says. Now, she´s introducing the next generation of female boxers to the sport through clinics for nonprofit girls´ leadership and empowerment programs. She also offers group and private training for women of all ages and skill levels, for which she´s been featured on CNBC, TLC, ESPNW, the New York Daily News and more. Says Scott, ″My greatest sources of inspiration are the women and girls who train with me. Seeing them develop their lives and their boxing skills through training leaves me no room for doubt: I made the right decision to leave corporate, escape the cube and create my future in the ring.″
