The Very Best of Film/TV

Nurse Jackie, Tribeca Film Festival, Grand Hotel and much more

Longtime fans of the award-winning Showtime series Nurse Jackie won't want to miss the Apr 13 season premiere. And if you haven't ever tuned in, tonight is as good a time as any to start!

Remember Fargo? “Oh, you betcha. Yah!” How could you forget it! And, after the winter we just lived through, we can empathize with North Dakotans and Minnesotans who call the frozen tundra home. Fargo is now a 10-episode miniseries based on the Oscar-winning Coen brothers film. The TV version features a new crime story and the same black comedy that made the movie a classic. Airs on FX Networks, beginning Apr 15.

It's that time again, filmmakers and festival lovers! Mark your calendars for the annual Tribeca Film Festival with screenings Apr 16 thru Apr 27 in various theaters around the city. This year’s festival includes 87 films from around the globe and features related events, including a three-day Tribeca Drive-in at the World Financial Center Plaza, street fair, special festival for fans of the latest independent sports films, panel conversations with filmmakers and actors, star-studded red carpets and much more.

Set your DVRs for 10pm on Apr 17, when TCM airs the 1932 Oscar-winning film, Grand Hotel. This black-and-white classic features an ensemble cast, including John and Lionel Barrymore, and a young Joan Crawford. The unequivocal star, though, is gorgeous Greta Garbo, who utters her famous line, "I want to be alone." Offscreen, Garbo wasn't alone; she was gettin' busy with lesbian writer Mercedes de Acosta.

On May 25, don’t forget to watch HBO’s highly anticipated version of The Normal Heart. Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts star in this adaptation of Larry Kramer's Tony-winning play about the early years of the HIV/AIDS crisis in '80s New York City.

The moment lesbians have been waiting with bated breath for is almost upon us! Orange Is the New Black is set to return Jun 6 with its second season on Netflix, and viewers are blocking off that weekend now to binge-watch each episode. Does Pennsatucky make it out alive from her fight with Piper? Are Alex and Nicky the newest “it” couple at Litchfield Penitentiary? Tune in to find out!
