Mel is a sound tech; Helen is a dancer, and it was a burlesque show that brought them together. One night after the show, Mel asked for everyone’s phone number as a ruse for getting Helen’s, yet it was Helen who made the first move by asking Mel out on an epic date. “Our first date lasted from 11 a.m. to about 4 a.m. the following day, and I feel like we’re still on it. I’ve saved every text we’ve ever sent to each other,” Mel says. Their secret to a successful relationship is lots of communication and honesty, but the two also warn that getting too comfortable can kill the romance. “We have amazing dates where we just go out together, forget about our bank accounts and the pressures of the world, and we just talk and drink and laugh,” says the couple. “That sort of simple, personal contact can keep people together for endless amounts of time.”
