Call it the Down Under version of the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival controversy about whether to admit non-biological females to the campground. A transgender psychotherapist from Australia has taken a lesbian support group to an equal opportunities tribunal on the grounds of discrimination, pinknews.co.uk reports.

Tracie O'Keefe of Sydney says that she was not invited to an event organized by the group, Sappho's Party, because of its policy excluding transgender people. The organization only allows those who were born female to participate. O'Keefe has lived as a woman for 35 years, undergone gender reassignment surgery and been in a long-term lesbian relationship for over a decade. The case has been adjourned until Dec 19.

Sappho's Party maintains that the biological female rule is essential to promoting trust and open discussion within the organization.
