Lucky 7: Our Seventh Year in Review

The 2008 elections filled our hearts with hope even while the economic downturn emptied our pockets. We spoke out against corporate greed, fought for our right to marry and shamed those that would hold us down into becoming more tolerant. A crane collapsed in Manhattan; a plane landed in the Hudson River and justice prevailed with the country’s first transgender-related hate crime conviction. Here is a look back at the past year and the events that most affected us.

E. OH, PLAXICO

In one of the most impressively stupid moves of all time, New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress showed up to a nightclub with an illegal weapon. He was reportedly seen fiddling with something in his pants when a bouncer heard a pop and saw Plaxico drop a bloody gun; the star athlete had accidentally shot himself in the leg. The Giants first suspended him without pay, and eventually ended up giving him the pink slip.
