This month’s installation of Revealed Burlesque promises to bring lots of dirty twists and more burlesque than you’ve ever seen before. Expect cutting-edge performances by some of New York City’s favorite burlesque performers including GiGi LaFemme and Peekaboo Pointe, where everything will be (ahem) revealed by show’s end.
And speaking of favorite cutups, Sandra Bernhard is coming to Joe’s Pub with her band, The Rebellious Jezebels, from Dec 26–31. You don’t want to miss a minute of this hilarious romp through the mind of one of our time’s most hysterical and outspoken comediennes. Bound to be scathing and full of attitude, this show is a perfect antidote to all the holiday ho-hums that are drawing to a close. A great way to spend New Year’s Eve for those trying to avoid the party circuit (which isn’t to say it won’t be one hell of a party!).
Celebrating its fifth year of spoken-word porn, Drunken! Careening! Writers! present Best Lesbian Erotica ‘09 at KGB Bar on Dec 18. Hosted by the editor of the series, Tristan Taormino, the night will feature selected readings by some of the authors. You might want to bring a small fan, because the room is bound to get hot.
The Big Apple Circus is in town again this year with its show Play On!, a brand new cacophony of high-flying acts, daring stunts, and tons of laughter, all set to a magical mix of music ranging from classical to rock and roll. Through Jan 18 you can catch all the contortions and juggling that can fit under the big top (and no seat is more than 50 feet from the ring!).
