The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 50th anniversary U.S. performances conclude at BAM June 9–14  with a “Best Of” program featuring a new production of Hymn, Artistic Director Judith Jamison’s award-winning tribute to Mr. Ailey, and “Classic Ailey,” including Alvin Ailey’s Blues Suite with live music. Also, don’t miss The Ailey School’s annual Spring Celebration Concert, May 20 and 21 at 7pm, which will feature the school’s most talented, advanced student dancers in works by Donald McKayle, Troy Powell, Francesca Harper and Pedro Ruiz.

Head to Brooklyn’s Bushwick Starr May 30 to check out Catch, an always-intriguing multidisciplinary performance and video series. Be wowed by rough-and-ready short works by some of New York’s most exciting artists, curated and hosted with reckless delicacy by Jeff Larson and Andrew Dinwiddie. Catch 35 features Bessie & Laurie, Sean Donovan, Karinne Keithley and more.

The Boogie Down Dance Series at BAAD!, which runs May 9–June 3, celebrates the growth of professional dance in the Bronx and takes its title from the borough’s nickname, “The Boogie Down.” The festival features interboro evenings of dance with groups from Brooklyn and Queens taking over BAAD!’s stage, repertory works from resident dance company Arthur Aviles Typical Theatre, DTW’s choreographer in residence Maria Colaco, an open rehearsal with John Jasperse, and a special night with Archie Burnett, Future Ninja and others artists who transport House dancing from the clubs to the stage.
