The Very Best of NYC Dance

Dance, Complexions Contemporary Ballet and more…

Marking its 40th anniversary, Lincoln Center Out of Doors continues its schedule of free performances on the plazas of Lincoln Center. Don’t miss Dance at the Damrosch Park Bandshell Aug 15. A seminal collaboration emerging from one of the most vibrant and prolific periods in New York’s art world, Dance was considered revolutionary when it premiered 30 years ago. Choreographed by revered experimental choreographer Lucinda Childs with an original score by Philip Glass, Dance is framed by a larger-than-life film of the original performers by artist Sol LeWitt, projected onto a translucent scrim in front of the stage. The buoyant dancers seamlessly weave space-devouring patterns, interacting with the film to create an endlessly flowing interplay of past and present.

City Parks Foundation brings Complexions Contemporary Ballet to SummerStage as a part of their 25th anniversary season. Watch this highly acclaimed dance troupe as they premiere “On Holiday”, an exceptional piece featuring the music of Billie Holiday, including Come Rain or Come Shine, Good Morning Heartache and Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off. This octet for four couples reinterprets the songs via a group of lovers who wander into various moments of their lives to experience each other in their private realities. “On Holiday” takes its lead from the classic American jazz songs that bring the heart and soul of the love affair to surface, diving deep into the intimacy that makes loving someone irresistible.
