Melissa Ferrick, Hooray for Goodbye and more!
-MUSIC--

Melissa Ferrick ranks among an elite group of female guitarists who'll brave the stage alone and leave it with the house cheering for more. Some of the biggest names in folk-rock-pop music, such as Ani DiFranco, PJ Harvey, Neko Case and Liz Phair, have tackled standing under the spotlight alone at one time or another during their illustrious careers. The same can be said for Ferrick except for one notable difference: She has made it something of a signature to go before her audiences armed with only her guitar and a set list. Catch her and Hesta Prynn perform June 6 as part of the Highland Ballroom’s 2009 Summer Series.

Join Hooray for Goodbye, recently featured on Logo’s Click List, as they celebrate the release of their debut album at Piano’s May 9. The vent features special gues Vero, GSX, NJ Jenn City, and visuals by Katrina Del Mar. $10 admission inclues a free CD featuring the band’s new single, “Brooklyn Girls.”

Our Hit Parade is a live top-ten countdown show—May 20 and June 24 at Joe’s Pub—created by Kenny Mellman (Kiki & Herb), carnal chanteuse Bridget Everett (At Least It's Pink at Ars Nova), pop song opera impresario Neal Medlyn (Neal Medlyn's Unpronounceable Symbol at P.S. 122), producer Brendan Kennedy, and writers Ada Calhoun and Peter Schjeldahl. The show is inspired by the musical sketch series Your Hit Parade that ran on radio and then television from 1935 to 1959. On that show, cast members performed the week's most popular songs as comically literal skits. In this show, the hosts and special guest stars from the local performance scene present their renditions of current popular hits live on stage!
