The Very Best Of NYC Special Events (February 2010)

Pajama Party Valentine’s Dance, 2010 Greater New York Human Rights Campaign Gala, and More!

On Feb. 13 join the guys and gals at Big Apple Ranch as they party in their PJ’s for a good cause. This year’s Pajama Party Valentine’s Dance is a benefit for the Gotham Knights Rugby Football Club. Big Apple Ranch has hosted a weekly country-western dance for the gay and lesbian community virtually every Saturday night for eleven years. Their huge dance floor welcomes people of all dance-abilities, and their friendly people go out of their way to make sure everyone has a good time and keeps coming back. So polish up your boots, and come on and see what all these cowgirls and cowboys are talking about!

The Greater New York HRC Steering Committee & Gala Co-chairs Bryan Parsons and Michelle Galindo invite you to the 2010 Greater New York Human Rights Campaign Gala at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Feb. 6.

This year’s gala will feature Bebe Neuwirth, Ally for Equality Award Recipient Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Corporate Equality Award Recipient Time Warner.

Join psychotherapist Liz Margolies for The Shadow in the Family Photo, a workshop presented by the Institute on Human Identity on Feb. 17. Children have a natural interest in how they came about and how th-eir family came to be, so questions regarding their family origin and family formation will and should occur. Although LGBTQ parents face more complexity in explaining how the family was created, children’s questions must be dealt with factually and, it is hoped, without anxiety. The workshop will provide a forum to discuss strategies to help queer parents deal with the complexities of questions of identity and relationships that come up.
