AIDS Walk, Respect Awards, Ladies in the Light and more!

Join women of all ages at the SAGE Women’s Spring Fever Dance at LQ on May 16. The Sage dances always offer the best music and appeal to women of all ages and backgrounds. DJ Susan Levine will rock the club with the best of old and new dance music. All proceeds support SAGE ‘s services to the elderly LGBT community.

 

The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), will honor Cyndi Lauper, Pfizer, American Express, and David Dechman and Michel Mercure at the seventh annual Respect Awards at Gotham Hall May 24. The Respect Awards, held annually in Los Angeles and New York, recognize individuals and corporate leaders who have helped propel GLSEN’s efforts to ensure safe schools for all of America’s students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. GLSEN will also recognize its Student Advocate of the Year (presented by AT&T), an honor awarded to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and a courageous voice in efforts to promote respect for all students.

 

PEARL:The WOW 30th anniversary celebration presents Ladies in the Light at the WOW Café Theater May 21. Some of your favorite LGBT performers will be there to celebrate WOW’s milestone anniversary, including performance art by Sokhna Heathyre Mabin;” I Transcender: The Gender Expression of Haitian Gods and Goddesses” created by MilDred Gerestant aka DRED; and theater performance art and poetic storytelling by Angie Elm.

 

On May 25 Kate Clinton & Urvashi Vaid and the Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) host committee invite you to New York City: Making History, Changing Lives, a special evening to learn more about GLAD’s work, meet friends, and support civil rights for the LGBT and HIV+ communities.

 

Sponsor and cheer on your favorite walker at the Twenty-fifth Annual AIDS Walk New York. On May 16, approximately 45,000 walkers will gather in Central Park to embark on the 10K route. Entering its 25th year, the event will once again raise vital funds for GMHC and for dozens of local AIDS service organizations in the tri-state area. AIDS Walk New York is one of the oldest, largest, most diverse, and highly anticipated annual events. The AIDS Walk movement has raised more than a half-billion dollars nationwide since its inception.

 

The women of OP. LYNX and the JCC invite you to a very special evening of new connections, familiar friends, and warm introductions at their Spring Mixer at the JCC in Manhattan May 13. Mix and mingle while you enjoy good company, delicious snacks, cocktails and panoramic views from the JCC rooftop.
