Celebration of Courage Human Rights Awards 2010, Shining Stars, and More

On Mar. 15 join the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission for the Celebration of Courage Human Rights Awards 2010 at the Rosenthal Penthouse of NYU’s Kimmel Center. Each year, IGLHRC celebrates the courage and leadership of a few groups and individuals who have contributed significantly to their global mission. Bebe Zahara Benet, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race hosts with a performance by out poet and political activist Staceyann Chin and a special recognition award presented to Congressman Barney Frank.

The Annual Community Event Chair Bari Zahn, Esq. and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York Executive Committee proudly announce the first Annual Community Event Shining Stars at Slate Feb. 16. Mix and mingle with other LGBT business leaders.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation’s LGBT media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, presents their 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Marriott Marquis Mar. 13. By recognizing and honoring media for outstanding images of the LGBT community, the GLAAD Media Awards serve as a benchmark for the media industry and complement GLAAD’s work to bring LGBT images and stories to Americans. This year’s nominees include Fox’s hit show Glee, ABC’s new hit comedy Modern Family, Be Like Others, a documentary about transgender people in Iran, The Joy Behar Show, Essence, Lady Gaga and more. GLAAD also announced that Cynthia Nixon will be honored with the Vito Russo Award at the New York ceremony.

The Empire State Pride Agenda, New York’s statewide LGBT civil rights and advocacy organization invites you to Winter Heat, the Pride Agenda’s annual women’s event. This year’s event will be held at BLVD Nightclub on Mar. 24 and feature music by the legendary DJ Missy B and DJ Trini!

Are you ready for a little Full-Frontal Philanthropy? Then get down to the Comix Comedy Club as they present Generosi-titties, a benefit for the Young Survival Coalition. On Mar. 14 some of the best local female comics that NYC has to offer will perform topless in the name of breast cancer.
