Jennifer Chrisler, executive director of Family Equality Council, started her career in politics, working in the Massachusetts State Senate. Chrisler says, “It was there that I learned how advocacy and education by nonprofits had a profound impact in shaping public policy. I also saw how people and policy can be a powerful force for change. And I wanted my career to be about bringing those two forces together.” Family Equality Council works to secure equality for LGBT families through community building and social justice. Chrisler, who has been honored for her work by the Massachusetts Freedom to Marry Coalition and the Human Rights Campaign, says, “I enjoy knowing that the work I do every day improves the lives of others. I’m especially proud to be doing this work for LGBT- headed families.”
