100 Women We Love: Sonia Oram

In 2011, Boston-based queer fashionista and writer Sonia Oram spawned the fashion blog Qwear to provide style inspiration, answers to fashion questions, and a supportive digital community for queer women, trans people and anyone who can rock suspenders. Now, when she’s not serving on Autostraddle’s fashion council or interviewing a veritable who’s-who of queer movers and shakers to satisfy Qwear’s growing following, you can find Oram collaborating on a fashion video project with Three Leaves Menswear and contributors from Original Plumbing magazine, Bklyn Boihood and dapperQ. Her message: Don’t worry about labels—be whatever type of queer you want. “My success is being openly queer. If I weren’t queer I’d probably just be stirring pasta in the back of a mac-and-cheese truck, feeling lost and confused and wondering where all the glitter was in my life!” she says. “I’m passionate about queer empowerment so that the next generation doesn’t have to go through what I went through with negative messages and lack of resources.” –QW
