GO! Magazine graciously sent me to the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Women’s Night as a correspondent. Held at the Henry Fonda Theater on historic Hollywood Blvd. this event showcased many inspiring and astounding lesbians who support and make it their life agenda to bring about change and difference in the community. A charitable event all proceeds go to the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. There was a silent auction where you were given the opportunity to bid on such items as a signed Melissa Etheridge guitar, spa retreats, romantic dinners, hotel accommodations, concerts, lesbian cruises and much more. Jane Lynch hosted the awards portion of the show. They honored Sharon Stone and Linda Perry. Red Car performed. There was a VIP dinner and afterwards a dance party on the roof. It was an amazing evening. Here is my account and the many highlights I made note of throughout the night.
Rosanna Arquette arrived right at 6pm, then found out she didn’t present until 9pm. She got extremely pissy, made a scene and stormed out, only to return later when needed.
Who are these rich lesbians? Someone purchased Bette Midler tickets that include meeting her backstage for $25,000. My jaw dropped. Someone else bought a walk on role on “The L Word” for $7,000. Hey ladies, I’m on the market for a sugar momma, any takers?
Had a nipple exposure moment when I took a picture of Thea Gill (“Queer as Folk”) and hers popped out the moment the flash went off. Unfortunately, I wasn’t using my own camera at the time. Said picture is not in my presence.
It felt like a wedding, I’ve never seen so many lesbians decked out in evening gowns before. I felt way under dressed in jeans a nice blouse and a sports jacket, but I looked especially lesbianesque.
Linda Perry played a few songs. Yes, she is undeniably a remarkable musician and songwriter, but why oh why were the songs so slow and boring. I like uplifting, danceable music. Lesbians love their emo-tunes.
I was introduced to a bunch of power lesbians and surprisingly they all read my blog. Thanks JD!
Sharon Stone makes for a great MC and auctioneer. She really grasps our plight for equality in marriage and is a true philanthropist. Not to mention super cool.
I made out with a very lovely woman on the dance floor, but for the record, she was much older than the usual jailbait I tend to swarm after.
The food served at dinner was quite blasé. Jerk chicken with a side of rice, beans and plantains. It wasn’t very warm and didn’t taste all that good. I was disappointed.
I met lesbian comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer who told me she doesn’t write her jokes. Instead she comes up with it on the fly whenever she’s on stage. I found that very interesting. I’ve thought about becoming a comedian myself once or twice, but I don’t think I’d be able to actually write jokes. I’m more of someone who riffs with people, adding my witty remarks and sarcasm here and there.
The pomegranate vodka concoction they were serving complementary was delicious goodness.
My friend donated herself to cook a dinner for 2 in the silent auction. She was on the first season of Hell’s Kitchen for value recognition. Apparently the winning bid went to a S. Stone. Could it be? To say the least, she is extremely excited that she may have the chance to prepare a meal for Ms. Basic Instinct and guest. One suggestion, keep the ice pick locked away.
Last night I realized how slowly time creeps by when you are bored and not doing something enjoyable, but speeds by when you are having a blast. In a blink of an eye the party came to a close and people started making their exits. It was a great night. I met a ton of lesbians. A wonderful and meaningful event, I am appreciative and happy I was able be a part of it. Thank you GO! Magazine.
