Theater for the New City Crystal Field, Executive Artistic Director, takes audiences back to 1913 in Crossing Paths in Washington Square by Barbara Kahn "Crossing Paths" portrays the wealthy of Washington Square North townhouses; Italian working class residents of Washington Square West; artists and writers of Washington Square South rooming houses; gays and lesbians beginning to build a community in Greenwich Village; Jewish immigrants to the east of Washington Square and remnants of the African American community, most of whom had already moved uptown to Harlem. Washington Square Park was where the disparate Village residents and visitors converged, sharing the greenery and fountain, especially during long hot summers.
