On April 28, 2008 the lesbian travel company Olivia Cruises announced that The L Word's Leisha Hailey will be their new spokesperson. The lesbian icon has signed a contract that makes her the face of Olivia in advertisement in various other media as of this year. Hailey, who has recently returned to music with her new band Uh Huh Her, will be headlining some of Olivia's new vacation packages.
In a recent press release, Olivia General Manager Lisa Henderson said, "Leisha is deservedly the out ‘it girl’ today and appeals to a broad spectrum of women, especially those in the lesbian community. It was important to us to work with an individual who reinforces Olivia’s entertainment value as well as being hip, fun and approachable. Leisha will appear both as a personality and musician on select Olivia trips. This relationship reinforces Olivia’s expanded image and reach in the community."
Hailey's addition to the Olivia family is the latest part of the company's increasing efforts to broaden their presence in the gay community and entice first-time travelers. "I am excited to be part of the Olivia family and to have the opportunity to introduce Olivia to women who may not be familiar with the entertainment or travel aspect of Olivia. I am thrilled at the opportunity to play a role in the expansion and growth of Olivia," said Hailey of the new partnership.
