New NY Gov. Pledges Support for Marriage Equality by gomag.com April 9, 2008 |

On Monday night the newly instated NY governor David Paterson received the New York Leadership Award from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. In his acceptance speech Paterson vowed to continue to push for full marriage rights for LGBT New Yorkers. He also added that he was in favor of legislation which would prevent school bullying, provide affordable health care and promote transgender rights in New York State. Paterson said, ""proud to have run on a ticket that advocated for marriage equality and to win on that premise."
Citing the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. he said that the LGBT community of New York deserved equal rights.
