With California voting on Proposition 8 on Tuesday, many groups are giving a last minute push to encourage voters to strike down the ballot initiative that would eliminate gay people's right to marry.

Navya Shastra, the international Hindu reform organization, released a statement urging Hindu voters to vote against Prop. 8, asserting that Hinduism does not, and has never, categorized homosexuality as a sin and historically has been very tolerant and accepting of alternative lifestyles.

Navya Shastra chairman Jaishree Gopal commented, "According to the Hindu contemplative tradition, we are all manifestations of the one universal spirit, straight or gay, and worthy of the same respect and rights. We urge American Hindus in California to remember this central insight of their faith when they vote on November 4."

Also, a group of Mormon mothers of LGBT children held a candlelight vigil in Salt Lake City on Sunday to protest the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' position of support for Proposition 8. The vigil was co-hosted by the Human Rights Campaign, the Utah Pride Center, Equality Utah, the Inclusion Center and PFLAG.

Lastly, former president Bill Clinton has recorded and issued a public message saying, "Proposition 8 would use state law to single out one group of Californians to be treated differently - discriminating against members of our family, our friends, and our co-workers. If I know one thing about California, I know that is not what you're about. That is not what America is about. Please vote no on 8. It's unfair and it's wrong."
