New York governor David Paterson told a celebrity lesbian couple that he would marry them, according to the New York Post.
Last weekend, actor/activist Heather Matarazzo and her fiancé, playwright Carolyn Murphy, asked Paterson for the favor while they were attending the Empire State Pride Agenda tea dance in East Hampton. Paterson, who vocally supports marriage equality, told Matarazzo and Murphy he’d be happy to officiate.
As for the 800-person tea dance, it came to an early end at 7 p.m., when neighbors complained to the police and had the dance floor cleared and speakers shut down, even though proper permits had been issued for the party.
